About the Role:
Are you a code-savvy, detail-oriented leader ready to build something great? As our Building Inspections Manager, you’ll lead a skilled team of inspectors and ensure the safety, health, and well-being of the public through expert code enforcement and inspection oversight. This role is perfect for someone with a deep understanding of building codes, strong leadership experience, and a passion for public service.
What You’ll Do:
· Oversee the daily operations of the Building Inspection Department, including budget management and staff supervision.
· Review building and site plans, issue permits, and ensure compliance with all applicable City, State, and Federal building codes.
· Conduct and manage building inspections throughout all stages of construction and existing structures.
· Lead code enforcement efforts, investigate complaints, and guide resolution.
· Serve as a resource and liaison to architects, contractors, property owners, and other City departments.
· Manage department policies, procedures, forms, and ensure continual compliance and training.
· Represent the City at meetings, hearings, and professional organizations.
What You’ll Bring:
Education & Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree in civil/mechanical engineering, construction management, or related field.
· 5+ years of progressive experience in code inspection or construction management (experience can substitute for education).
· 2+ years of supervisory experience or successful completion of the City’s Emerging Leadership Program within two years of hire.
Certifications Required:
· UDC Construction, HVAC, Electrical, and Plumbing Inspector
· Commercial Building Certification
· Valid driver’s license
Certifications to Obtain: (if not already held):
· Commercial Electrical Certification
· Commercial Plumbing Certification
Key Skills for Success:
· Deep knowledge of construction technology, building codes, and safety regulations
· Ability to lead a team and collaborate across departments
· Strong communication, problem-solving, and technical report-writing skills
· Proficiency with inspection and permitting software, databases, and Microsoft Office
