The City of Waupaca Community & Economic Development Department is seeking a certified applicant to fill a full-time role within their department. This position will play a key role in maintaining community safety and contributing to the City’s continued success during a period of rapid growth in the community.
The Building Inspector will perform inspections of residential construction projects to ensure compliance with building codes and zoning ordinances in accordance with State and City regulations. This individual will bring a positive, solution-driven approach to interactions with builders and residents, balance enforcement with education, and demonstrate strong and consistent decision-making in interpreting and applying building codes.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate knowledge of current building codes, inspection practices, and residential construction; strong interpersonal skills and a customer-service mindset; excellent problem-solving skills/attention to detail; and the ability to communicate effectively in person, over the phone, and in writing.
The Building Inspector works within the Community & Economic Development Department and collaborates closely with members of various City departments. This position has no supervisory responsibilities and reports to the Community & Economic Development Director.

Education & Experience
High school diploma or equivalent. Three plus years of relevant experience in construction trades, inspection, code enforcement, planning, and/or engineering. Relevant educational experience or technical training may be substituted for experience. Must possess a valid WI UDC Construction and HVAC Inspector certification. WI UDC Electrical and/or Plumbing Inspector Certification preferred at time of hire (must be able to obtain certification within six months of hire). Possession of a WI Commercial Building Inspection license is preferred but not required. Experience with online permitting software preferred. Requires a valid WI Driver’s License (the City provides a car for use during work).

Compensation & Benefits
Position is full-time, with pay rate ranging from $28.00 – $38.00 per hour, dependent on qualifications and certifications.
